Harrison Ford has starred in some of the biggest movie franchises of our time.
For starters, he plays the title role in Indiana Jones, the action-picked series that just released its latest installment.
Besides Indy, Ford famously portrayed Han Solo in Star Wars, acting alongside fellow Hollywood greats like Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.
And in addition to these memorable performances, you may know him from movies like Witness, American Graffiti, Blade Runner, and many more.
And we can’t forget his recent television performances on Yellowstone prequel 1923 and AppleTV+ hit Shrinking.
In honor of the actor’s noteworthy career that spans over five decades, we rounded up some photos of young Harrison Ford dating back to the ‘80s.
From pictures taken while on an old TV series set, to shots of him hanging out with his Star Wars cast members, here are 7 young Harrison Ford photos you probably have never seen before.
In 1969, a young Ford appeared in an episode of Love, American Style, titled “Love and the Former Marriage.” He acted alongside Jenny Sullivan, who went on to have guest appearances on Starsky & Hutch, Sanford and Son, and Happy Days.
Several years later, Ford starred in the George Lucas-directed film, American Graffiti, as Bob Falfa, a drag racer-turned-San Francisco police officer. At the time, the 30-year-old Ford was also working as a carpenter part-time to help make ends meet.
Here, Ford is pictured hanging out with his Star Wars co-stars, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, while on a press junket in Denver. “We did publicity for the first Star Wars together—we traveled together,” Mark Hamill told Esquire in 2023. “Harrison was like the father figure. He would give us little report cards after an appearance.”
Ford is seen here on the set of The Frisco Kid, an adventure comedy that takes place in the Old West. The film, which also stars Gene Wilder, received less than glowing reviews from film critics like Roger Ebert, who awarded it two stars. The New York Times said, “There’s no shortage of talent in The Frisco Kid, but it’s the wrong talent for the wrong material,” in its review.
Thankfully the late 1970s wasn’t a complete flop for Ford. That same year, he appeared in Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now. The film was full of other big name actors including Martin Sheen, Dennis Hopper, and Laurence Fishburne. It won two Oscars and premiered at the 1979 Cannes Film Festival.
In the early ‘80s, Ford was snapped at home in Los Angeles. Although the actor is a native of Chicago and called LA home for a while, today he spends most of his time on his 800-acre ranch in Jackson, Wyoming, with his wife, actress Calista Flockhart.
By the 1980s, Ford had become a household name. Here, he’s signing autographs for adoring fans while out and about in 1986.
