The US singer was handed the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian prize by Mrs Clinton, who said she had “the spirit and the energy and the compassion that Audrey Hepburn brought to her work from UNICEF”.

Ms Perry, who was named UNICEF’s “goodwill ambassador” for 2013, was an avid supporter of Ms Clinton’s campaign for the White House, which she lost to Republican nominee Donald Trump.
At a Democrat rally in Philadelphia days before the election the singer demonstrated her support by donning a blue cape emblazoned in glitter with the words “I’m with Madam President”.
After Donald Trump won the election the singer defiantly tweeted: “WE WILL NEVER BE SILENCED. #LOVETRUMPSHATE” to her 94.4 million followers.
A week later she asked the President-elect to apologise for his “divisive, racist, xenophobic rhetoric”, after he mocked America’s safe-space culture when his deputy Mike Pence was confronted by actors at a New York theatre.
