Known for her acting, talk shows and philanthropy, last night she become the first black woman to be honoured with the Cecil B. DeMille award at the Golden Globes.
Winfrey received a standing ovation for her speech, in which she spoke about the end of sexual harassment and abuse – a subject at the forefront of the awards, with many attendees wearing black in solidarity with abuse victims.

As she accepted the prestigious gong, the chat show host addressed sexual harassment and racial injustice and told girls watching the ceremony that a “new day is on the horizon”.
She began her speech by recalling the feelings she felt as a young girl watching Sidney Poitier win the best actor Academy Award back in 1964.
The businesswoman said to the audience: ”It is not lost on me that, at this moment, there is some little girl watching as I become the first black woman to be given the same award.
