She sings about being a California Girl and so when it came to celebrating the July 4th Katy Perry returned to her roots.

The singer enjoyed a bike ride around Venice with friends yesterday, an activity residents take part in regularly.

Katy appeared happy and relaxed as she rode through the streets before taking the path on the beach towards Santa Monica. 

The 27-year-old had thrown on a bikini with a cream dress over the top and a jumper tied around her waist.

She accessorised with a headband embellished with flowers and wore flat black pumps on her feet.

Given her lack of pockets or even a bag Katy had come up with an ingenious way to secure her phone – she held it in place in her cleavage.

The phone could be seen popping out of her top as she peddled around the trendy neighbourhood.
