Harrison Ford happily shares about leaving Indiana Jones: “I need a rest.”

“We seem to have reached the age where life stops giving us things and starts taking them away”

A character in “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” from 2008 reminds the titular character of Harrison Ford.

The Indiana Jones film series began with “Raiders of the Lost Ark” in 1981

Followed by “The Temple of Doom” in 1984, “The Last Crusade” in 1989, and “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” in 2008.

The series could have ended there, but it didn’t.

Ford wasn’t ready to stop there.

And fans had to wait another 15 years for Indy’s next adventure, and not only that, it’s the first adventure Harrison Ford embarked on without executive producer George Lucas (who retired) and director Steven Spielberg (who was too busy). 15 years is a long time – a very long time – to wait. During this time, Daniel Craig has made four James Bond films, while Hugh Jackman has brandished his adamantium claws as Wolverine in four films (it would be six films if you count his guest appearances).

One can’t help but wonder if Ford, who turned 81 on July 13, wishes he had made more sequels to Indiana Jones? “No,” Ford said in a Zoom chat, “I need a break.” “I want to tell a story about aging. I want to tell a story about Indiana Jones to the end of his life, I want to see the result of how he lived,” Ford continued, “I want to see him wear that. I want to see him deal with the difficulties in his personal relationship with his wife.

I want to meet him at the end of his academic career. I want to see him without the physical strength he used to have.” In other words, “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” tells the inner story of “a hero at dusk” – as director Mangold said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly about the film. “What does a hero do when the world no longer has a place for him? I find it interesting to try to look at classic heroes through the lens of our contemporary attitudes.”
