Katy Perry loves a destination wedding. In 2010, kicking off what would turn out to be 14 months of marriage,
she and Russell Brand were married in a massive ceremony near a tiger sanctuary in northern India—there were elephants and a Bollywood-themed rehearsal dinner,
and elements of a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony, though neither practice the religion.
A decade of life experience and accusations of cultural appropriation later, Perry was reportedly ready to do it all again, with a 150-person ceremony in Japan to marry Orlando Bloom this summer. (They’re also expecting their first child together this year.)
But now, according to People, the coronavirus has put that plan on hold. “Katy was actually really excited about walking down the aisle pregnant,” a source told People.
“They were both so elated that all the wedding details were finally coming together, but they are hitting pause because of coronavirus.”
As a global pandemic with 100,000 victims and counting, COVID-19 is inevitably going to start overlapping with celebrity—a Swedish princess is staying home from school,
Prince William is making jokes about suspicious coughs, and over at the Daily Mail, they’re working hard to build a connection between the Kardashians and the residents of Tarzana, California, who tested positive for the virus after returning from Italy.
(“A mother whose sons and husband who tested positive for coronavirus in a Los Angeles suburb 10 miles from Kim Kardashian’s home has spoken out.”) It’s a “Stars—They’re Just Like Us!”
story for the outbreak age, a cold comfort that even the rich and famous are obsessively washing their hands and, in the case of Perry and Bloom, watching their great vacation plans fall apart.
