Katy Perry is no stranger to taking risks when it comes to red-carpet fashion, and tonight was no exception:
For the 2017 Met Gala, the co-chair stepped out in a custom, red tulle creation from John Galliano for the Masion Margiela ‘Artisanal’ collection.
The look, which was tweaked from a 2017 Couture runway ensemble, consisted of a silk chiffon dress topped with a red décortiqué embroidered wool coat.
Accessories included a slew of bigger-than-thou diamond rings courtesy of Los Angeles jeweler Lorraine Schwartz, red Tabi boots (a Margiela signature), and perhaps what the internet felt most strongly about:
a chrome headpiece long, tulle veil embroidered with the word “witness” that trailed out behind her. (Don’t forget that OTT manicure, too.)
While we don’t know quite what Katy Perry (or maybe Galliano?) meant by inscribing the word on her veil, Twitter (of course) seems to think they know all: specifically, that “Witness” is in fact the name of Perry’s upcoming album.
With two new songs we can’t stop listening to — “Chained to the Rhythm” and “Bon Appetit,” we’re hoping that Twitter is right and that we are, well, witnessing the naming of her next album.
Check out some of the best tweets below, then decide for yourself on what she’s really bearing witness to.
