Looks like CBS didn’t want any of Nicki Minaj’s buns.
The rapper is peeved at the network for obscuring a chunk of her performance of her latest hit “Anaconda” during Tuesday’s “Fashion Rocks” special.
“My darlingz, I wish you could’ve seen the choreography on the 2nd verse of ‘Anaconda’ last night. It was absolutely divine. CBS decided not to show it,” Minaj wrote on social media Wednesday.
The annual collision of fashion and music featured plenty of models as well as performances from Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Lopez, Duran Duran and Afrojack during the two-hour spectacle for charity that takes place as part of New York Fashion Week.
Minaj was on hand to perform “Anaconda,” the saucy ode to her bottom, but viewers at home didn’t see all of it. Clad in a diamond-studded bra and denim skirt,
her costume was more demure than her jungle-inspired get-up at the MTV Video Music Awards, where she debuted the bun-loving single.
While the standard tape delay came in handy to wipe out some of the lyrics, camera crews also turned away from a great deal of the song’s steamy choreography.
To be fair, there was plenty of booty poppin’ — and droppin’ — and Minaj’s amazingly limber chair routine was shown. The second verse’s routine, however, apparently proved too steamy for network television.
In the dance sequence Minaj lies on the floor and, well, little is left to the imagination. But most of the sequence wasn’t shown. On wide shots, the lights suddenly appeared dim, and close-ups of performers were exchanged for crowd reactions.
The routine, from what Pop & Hiss saw, looked the same as what she did at the VMA but that was, of course, cable.
Wednesday morning the rapper took to her Instagram to criticize the network.
“Had they told us this before, we would have changed the choreo so that you guys could see the full performance from beginning to end,” Minaj wrote.
