n February 2021, a tragic accident claimed the life of Nicki Minaj’s father Robert Maraj. The singer’s father was hit by a car in Long Island and the driver fled.

The artist remembered him on her website three years later.

“It has been the most devastating loss of my life. I find myself wanting to call him all the time. More so now that he is gone (…) May his soul rest in paradise.

He was dearly loved and will be dearly missed,” were the words of the Trinidad and Tobago-born artist.

Now, just days before the three-year anniversary of Robert Maraj’s death, Nicki Minaj has revealed for the first time the contents of the phone conversation she had with her father just hours before he was run over and killed.

The rap star and model, in an interview for Apple Music, has revealed that her father called her just before he died.

“Normally, I don’t answer the phone when I’m with the baby. But I saw that it was my dad and something inside me said, ‘answer it’.

I answered and he was in a very good mood. He said, ‘Honey, can I fly out on Monday? He had been waiting for a long time for the opportunity to come and see me and help me. And I kept insisting, ‘Come on, come on over,'” she said.
